Lima!
We´re here! Massive massive thank you to everyone who has helped me get here, with help fundrasing and donating and everything. This is a little bit rushed but will hopefully give you an idea of the last few hours.
Well I set off from home at 5am, and the trip to Heathrow was fine. I checked in, passed through security, all strangely quiet. When the gate came up I headed over to it, thinking I´d just meet the other girls there. I feel asleep waiting for it to open and when woke up, still no other Peru girls. At this point I was a bit worried... I checked the ticket a few times, checked the ate, asked some officials and other passengers - this was definitly the right plane, maybe they´d ALL got stuck on the M25? So I hopped on, made friends with a girl called Sophie who was heading off to El Salvador having just finished her second year reading History at Manchester. 2 films, 2 meals and many hours later we arrived in Miami and I was still aloneeee. It was 6 pm UK time, about 2 in Miami. I was quite proud of getting that far but was not sure at all about transferring! There´d been an empty seat next to me on the way over and I was just thinking ´Where are you Tanya?!´ and then, out of the blue, there she was! So in Miami we did some browsing, had a bit of an unnecessary sprint to the plane but all was fine, we got on but still no sign of the other girls... We got to Lima after some nasty turbulance, another film and some more food, at about 21.45 Lima time, so about 3am UK time (so been travelling nearly a hefty 24 hours) but then weren´t quite sure what to do. We tried to look for the rep but after an hour gave up. We waited for the next flight to come in from Miami but no sign of 12 PT gringas... Nor the next flight. It was now 1am Peru time (so 6am UK) and we were SO TIRED. I´d only got about 2 hours sleep on my last night in the UK and Tanya was the same. WE rang the rep on her mobile and she said the other girls had missed their connection in Miami and weren´t going to arrive till 4.30 am in Lima. Sheñd assumed we were all flying together (as we had as well). She said she could come and get us but we said don´t worry (we´d woken her up) and decided to go sleep like a hobo on the airport floor. It was very, very cold but luckily had a sleeping bag :) We headed to starbuckand I had a GRANDE coffee and Tanya found some wifi. Eventually the rest of our group turned up, we found Pia and all made our way to a bus, where we hopped on and drove to Miraflores to a nice hostel... It was beginning to get light. Sooo now it´s 11am and we´ve had a bit of sleep, it must be 5pm in the UK, I have never felt so tired but have already seen some awesome sights - a street vendor, Inka Kola, poncho shops and much more. Later on we have a bus tour and then we´re free to roam till Monday, when we remeet Pia. On Tuesday we´ll seperate out to our individual projects.
Tanya and I got a visa for 90 days which means we will have to leave and re-enter the country by 25th November... At the moment we´re thinking a mii-trip to see the volunteers in Bolivia.
If you want to read Tanya´s blog it´s http://tanyainperu.blogspot.com/.
Chloe - you will be glad to know the Peruvians have Beiber fever also, he was blaring out at the airport while we were trying to kip.
Lots of love, will hopefully post again soon when less tired and don´t need to go get shampoo etc
